Conduct Update: Sigma Phi Epsilon

Update 3/23/17: Sigma Phi Epsilon was found not responsible for the following charges: Respect for Others D1 (Hazing).  This concludes the disciplinary process for this matter.

Update 3/6/17: As of 3/3/2017, the suspension of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity is lifted and the chapter can resume operations. Any violations between now and the disciplinary hearing will result in the temporary suspension being reinstated. 

Update 3/1/17: The chapter has been charged with violating the code of conduct related to an incident on February 15, 2017.

The allegations are listed below:
Respect for Others D1 (Hazing)
Hazing as defined in the Lehigh University Code of Conduct.

As of the issuance of this letter on February 16, 2017, the Lehigh University Chapter of Sigma Phi
Epsilon Fraternity is placed on temporary suspension pending the outcome of an investigation into
alleged hazing that threatened the health and safety of students.

Effective immediately the Lehigh University Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity is prohibited from conducting all new member education activities and any social activities until this suspension is lifted. This suspension applies to all organized events as well as impromptu social gatherings of members and/or guests that could be construed in any way to be a “Sigma Phi Epsilon Event”. Furthermore all members of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity are prohibited from contacting the members of the Spring 2017 new member class and new members are prohibited from contacting members of the chapter. Failure to adhere to this instruction will result in disciplinary action against individual students.

This action is being taken in accordance with Article IV of the Lehigh University Code of Conduct. The Office of Student Conduct & Community Expectations will begin an investigation into this incident in the immediate future and this interim suspension will remain in place until lifted by the Dean of Students.
