Conduct Update: Theta Xi
Update 3/22/17: After reviewing the information related to incident, the Hearing Officer made the following finding(s) regarding the violation(s) for which Theta Xi was charged:
1. Respect for Community M1 (Fire Safety or Other Life Safety Violations) -- Responsible
2. Respect for Self A1 (Unauthorized Consumption, Distribution, or Possession) -- Responsible
3. Respect for Community I1B (Social policy - 1.D.11.a - Irresponsible Distribution of Alcohol) --Not Responsible
As a result of this behavior the following sanction(s) will be imposed:
Theta Xi Fraternity is placed on disciplinary probation effective March 21, 2017 through December 18, 2017. Disciplinary probation is the conditional continuation of a group or organization for a specified period of time not to exceed four semesters. This status implies that any further violation of this Code of Conduct may result in dissolution, termination, or other authorized sanctions. Other sanctions may be imposed, including limitations on social activities, and additional requirements may be imposed as conditions for reinstatement of recognition in good standing.
The chapter is required to work with their governing board (IFC) and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs on an educational program that provides a meaningful educational experience related to the violations in this conduct case, to chapter members. You are being assessed a fine in the amount of $500.00 for A major fire safety violation. It is the responsibility of the Chapter to make sure that payment is made in the form of a check made payable to Lehigh University. Your fine must be received at the Office of Residential Service no later than March 31, 2017.
Rationale for Finding:
The chapter admitted to blocking the fire exit (through negligence on the part of chapter officers) and to lacking meaningful controls over alcohol in the chapter house. There is insufficient proof the hold the chapter responsible for the irresponsible distribution of alcohol (drinking games).
Theta Xi has been charged with violating the code of conduct related to an incident on February 17, 2017.

Respect for Community M1 (Fire Safety or Other Life Safety Violations)
Actions that violate University policies regarding life safety and fire safety this includes but is not limited to: Covered smoke detectors, candles, open flames, blocking egresses, etc.)
Respect for Self A1 (Unauthorized Consumption, Distribution, or Possession)
The unauthorized or illegal consumption, distribution, or possession of alcohol.
Respect for Community I1B (Social policy - 1.D.11.a - Irresponsible Distribution of Alcohol)
Violating the Lehigh University Social Policy 1.D.11.a (11. Irresponsible distribution of alcohol is
prohibited. a. Any occasion where the atmosphere or circumstances are such that the intended or likely outcome is to either abuse alcohol or become intoxicated. Examples of irresponsible distribution of alcohol include but are not limited to kegs, funnels, shot parties, hotel parties, Beirut games, pong ball, scorpion bowls, chugging contests or other organized drinking games.)
