Conduct Update: Theta Chi Fraternity
Update 1/30: You were involved in an incident on January 25, 2018, in which your behavior violated the Lehigh University Code of Conduct. During your meeting with Holly A. Taylor you were informed that you were charged with the following violations:
Respect for Community (General)
As members of the Lehigh University Community, students are expected to serve as ethical
representatives. They are expected to know and follow the Code of Conduct, and show respect for the
faculty, staff, community members and administrative processes that are in place to maintain and support our community standards. Students are expected to hold themselves and others accountable and report violations of the Code of Conduct or other violations to the University.
Respect for Self A1 (Unauthorized Consumption, Distribution, or Possession)
The unauthorized or illegal consumption, distribution, or possession of alcohol.
Theta Chi Fraternity took recruits to a Flyers game in Philadelphia and were disruptive, intoxicated, and offensive to others around them.
You took responsibility for the following charges, any other listed charges were dropped
Respect for Community (General) and Respect for Self A1 (Unauthorized Consumption, Distribution, or Possession)
As a result of this behavior the following sanction(s) will be imposed:
You are placed on Disciplinary Probation effective January 30, 2018 through May 31, 2018. Disciplinary Probation is defined as the imposition of a trial period in which students must show that they are willing to live up to the expectations in this Code of Conduct. This trial period may not exceed four semesters. This status implies that further violations of this code may result in disciplinary suspension or expulsion. Other sanctions may be imposed, and additional requirements may be imposed as conditions for reinstatement in good standing.
The following educational sanction is being imposed. Revised Recruitment/New Member Education plan must be approved by OFSA prior to resuming recruitment activities. Any chapter activities held between now and giving out bids must be on campus, with the exception of the hibachi dinner, and ALL events will be alcohol free. The following educational sanction is being imposed. Theta Chi must report any internal judicial action taken against any brother for their behavior at the Flyers game. It is to be completed by March 2, 2018. For further information please contact Holly A. Taylor
The following educational sanction is being imposed. Restorative meeting with Holly Taylor. Theta Chi is required to hold a meeting with Holly and 85% of the brothers and new members who were at the Flyers game to discuss what happened and how to move forward. It is to be completed by March 2, 2018. For further information please contact Holly A. Taylor
You are required to write a letter of apology to the Flyers fan who submitted the report. This letter must be typed and no less than 250 words in length. The letter must be submitted to the Office of Student Conduct & Community Expectations, via lehigh.edu/go/sanctionsubmission no later than the close of business February 2, 2018. This letter should reflect a keen understanding of the inappropriateness of your actions and the impact that it had on the recipient(s). Please be advised that this letter will be screened by the Office of Student Conduct & Community Expectations prior to being forwarded to the recipient. A copy will also be maintained in your disciplinary records. Be further advised that this letter may not serve to justify your own actions nor evaluate the actions of others. The letter should utilize appropriate language, grammar, and spelling.
TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF RECRUITMENT ACTIVITIES FOR THETA CHI
The Lehigh University Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity is required to cease recruitment activities pending an investigation into activities at a Flyers Game in Philadelphia. Members and/or guests were reportedly intoxicated, rude, and disruptive.
Effective immediately the Lehigh University Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity is prohibited from
conducting any recruitment activities and is to cease all contact with potential recruits of Theta
Chi Fraternity. Additionally, potential recruits--first year students and upperclass students--are
not permitted to attend any events affiliated with Theta Chi Fraternity. This extends to social
events located on or off campus.
This action is being taken in accordance with Article IV of the Lehigh University Code of
Conduct. The Office of Student Conduct & Community Expectations will begin an investigation
into this incident in the immediate future and this interim suspension will remain in place until
lifted by the Dean of Students.
