Advisor Spotlight
Name: Amanda Fabrizio
Role on Campus: Communications Specialist for
the Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) Department
Chapter You Advise: Pi Beta Phi
As a faculty/staff advisor, how
are you involved with the fraternity or sorority that you work with? How would
you like to be involved? Please be as specific as possible.
I meet
with the Pi Beta Phi president on a monthly basis and provide her with advice
and feedback. I’d like to have more opportunities to interact with them at
their fundraisers and events and be able to provide them with necessary
guidance and advice.
What
are some of the chapter’s accomplishments that you are proud of?
Pi Beta Phi is a gold chapter and
has been for a couple of years. I’m so proud of the sisters for being
academically and philanthropically strong leaders!
What do you find is most
rewarding about advising?
I enjoy
interacting with the sisters of Pi Phi and seeing all the great work that they
do. Seeing them pay it forward to the community is rewarding to me. I also
enjoy working the Greek Leadership Conference that’s held in the fall semester.
Every student involved with Greek Life should attend!
As
a faculty/staff advisor, why did you decide to become involved in the
fraternity/sorority community here at Lehigh University?
I enjoy getting involved with the
campus community at all different levels, especially being able to give back to
the students. When Tim Wilkinson mentioned he had an opening to be an advisor,
I jumped at the opportunity. I also wanted to get educated about Greek Life as
well. Unfortunately, when I was in college, we didn’t have a Greek Life. Being
able to learn and see all the great things that Pi Phi and the Lehigh
fraternity/sorority community do as a whole has also been extremely valuable!
Do you have any specific
interests or areas of expertise that you would like/be willing to share with
the fraternity/sorority community?
I have
been asked on several occasions to do presentations about Networking, Social
Media and Professional Communications Etiquette. The feedback I have received
from the students who have been in my presentation said that they found it
extremely beneficial and have picked up some great tips! (And…the presentation
is entertaining…it’s in color and has fun videos…No dozing off in this one!)
What is your best advice for
Greek-affiliated students?
Don’t
sweat the small stuff and take a deep breath! You’ll look back on many of these
situations in five to ten years, and hysterically laugh.
What do you like to do when you
aren’t helping to advise?
Along
with advising Pi Phi, I’m also a First-Year Experience facilitator, and a
member of the Holiday Party Committee. I’m President-Elect of the Rotary Club
of Saucon and the Rotaract Chair for our Rotary District 7430. (Rotary is an
international organization of business men and women that do community service
and fundraising on the local, national and international level,
www.rotary.org). I advise the DeSales Rotaract Club, the college version of
Rotary, and help out with the DeSales Senior Success Series. As a DeSales alumna,
I’m also one of the Class of 2007’s Class Agents. And in my spare time, I enjoy
trivia nights, playing with my new Wii and tweeting, a lot
(www.twitter.com/Fabreeze13185).
