Update on Gamma Phi Beta

On February 26, 2014 a disciplinary conference was held for Gamma Phi Beta before Christopher J. Mulvihill, to adjudicate the charges below:

Respect for Community I1 (Posted Rules and Regulations)

Violating any Lehigh University policies, rules, or regulations, including but not limited to, residential living policies (General Provisions for Occupancy) and policies related to the use of the university

computer network.

The incident these charges were related to is described below:

1) Respect for Community I1 (Posted Rules and Regulations) Violating any Lehigh University policies,

rules, or regulations, including but not limited to, residential living policies (General Provisions for

Occupancy) and policies related to the use of the university computer network.

Specific Rule: The Medical Amnesty Policy Part II C states, ” Student Organizations are required to seek

immediate medical assistance for their members or guests when any potential health risk is observed,

including medical emergencies related to the use of alcohol and/or drugs.

Specific: Members of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority failed to seek assistance for a new member who was highly intoxicated. Members of Gamma Phi Beta initially brought her to the residence hall, talked with a

Gryphon, and instead of seeking medical attention, took her back to the sorority house. LUPD arrived at

the sorority house and found the new member highly intoxicated and transported her to St. Luke's.

Gamma Phi Beta was found not responsible with the following rationale

The information presented by the witnesses was credible, and that while this was a regrettable and serious incident, the chapter was not at fault.

Key facts:

1) The testimony of the primary investigator

2) The testimony of the Gryphons concerning the behavior and actions of the sisters.

3) The cooperative actions of the organization during the investigation.

I would ask that the chapter work with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs in developing program for educating all students on issues related to alcohol abuse and the medical amnesty policy.

It our hope that you will focus your energies on making a positive contribution to the Lehigh University Community in the future.

Conduct Updates

An update regarding chapters that have been currently meeting with the Office of Student Conduct and Community Expectations:

Zeta Tau Alpha: The suspension of chapter activities for the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at Lehigh University has been lifted. New member activities and involvement of new members in chapter activities are still suspended pending the outcome of the disciplinary process from the incident occurring on January 14th.  The Office of Student Conduct and Community Expectations has scheduled a Disciplinary Conference with Zeta Tau Alpha and Pi Kappa Alpha for Saturday, March 15^th.  Continuation of new member education is pending the outcome of the Disciplinary Conference.

Pi Kappa Alpha: The Office of Student Conduct and Community Expectations has scheduled a Disciplinary Conference with Zeta Tau Alpha and Pi Kappa Alpha for Saturday, March 15^th.  

Gamma Phi Beta: The Office of Student Conduct and Community Expectations has scheduled an Disciplinary Conference with Gamma Phi Beta for Wednesday, February 26th.

Suited for Leadership

Suited for Leadership
Suited for Leadership aims to recognize seniors who demonstrate a continued commitment to leadership development in themselves, their chapters and the overall Greek community.  These students serve as a role model for their peers and dedicate time to improving the Greek community.   They are positive examples of leadership excellence and social consciousness in a complex and ever-changing global community. 

Students can be nominated and/or apply.  One award recipient will be selected through a committee and will receive a $150 gift certificate to a department store of their choice towards a suit or professional attire.  Additional award honorees are eligible to receive professional accessories such as a padfolio, business card holder, etc.

Brotherhood Recruitment Officers Applications

A Brotherhood Recruitment Officer (B.R.O.) is an upper-class, Greek affiliated man who is an ultimate resource for fraternity life at Lehigh University. Officers are trained with information on all Interfraternity Council organizations as well as the Multicultural Greek and Panhellenic Councils. A B.R.O. is proud of his membership but understands that there is a fraternity for every man who is interested in affiliating. He offers support and guidance to Potential New Members through the recruitment and decision making process. Officers are there to answer questions about fraternity membership and life at Lehigh.

The Brotherhood Recruitment Officer program is a product of the Lehigh bLUeprint curriculum. This program focuses on the Five Foundations of Success: Creative Curiosity, Identity Development, Collaborative Connections, Inclusive Leadership, and Professional Growth and Success.

Expectations of a Brotherhood Recruitment Officer:

·        Attend all B.R.O. sponsored events and programs
Remain affiliated, but unbiased
Know and understand all recruitment rules, policies, and council information
Know and understand the B.R.O. bLUeprint curriculum
Be respectful, helpful, and knowledgeable

Eligibility:

To be eligible to be a Brotherhood Recruitment Officer, one must:

·         Have a cumulative GPA over 2.5

·         Be at least a second year, full-time student in the University

·         Be an active, full-time, undergraduate member of an IFC recognized member fraternity

Application process:

Applications and a copy of a current resume are due Monday, February 3^rd at 4 p.m. to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (OFSA) - UCB008c. Update on Pi Kappa Alpha

The suspension of chapter activities for the Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter at Lehigh University is lifted.  The investigation into possible violations of Lehigh University policy continues.

Pi Kappa Alpha may resume chapter activity including, recruitment events with potential new members. Alcohol and/or other illicit substances are not permitted at any recruitment events, formal or informal. Pi Kappa Alpha will not provide alcohol or allow alcohol for any active member or potential new member before, during or after an event that could be classified as a recruitment activity. The Chapter will provide detailed plans regarding all recruitment activities to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs prior to the events.
