FRATERNITY AND SORORITY LEADERSHIP AWARDS

Individual Awards
Individual awards will not necessarily be limited to one individual; several recipients across chapters and/or councils may be selected, depending on nomination pool.

Greek Leader of the Year
This award recognizes individuals for their achievements and contributions to the fraternity and sorority community and larger campus community. Leadership is not limited to those holding positions, therefore consideration will be given to individuals who exemplify many, if not all, of the values of brotherhood or sisterhood, strong character, leadership, scholarship, and service in their daily lives.

Outstanding President of the Year*
Awarded to the chapter president who has demonstrated superior leadership and service to his/her chapter, as well as to the Greek community. This leader is one who consistently represents their organizational values, communicates a clear vision for success, and leaves their organization in a better place than when they took office.
*To be eligible for this award, nominee must have served some or all of their presidential term during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Suited for Leadership
This award recognizes graduating seniors who demonstrate a continued commitment to leadership development in themselves, their chapters, and the overall fraternity and sorority community. These students serve as role models for their peers and dedicate time to improving the fraternity and sorority community. They are positive examples of leadership excellence and social consciousness in a complex and ever-changing global community.

Emerging Leader of the Year*
Awarded to a newer member of the fraternity and sorority community who has shown leadership characteristics within their peer group, fraternity and sorority community, and greater Lehigh community. These members are enthusiastic about their experience as new members and are eager to pursue leadership opportunities and bring about positive change to the fraternity and sorority community.
*To be eligible for this award, nominee must have joined their organization during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Advisor of the Year
This award recognizes the extraordinary efforts of an advisor who has helped to positively shape the experiences of fraternity/sorority members. Advisors willingly, and often without receiving anything in return, give of themselves to contribute to overall chapter excellence, daily operations, university and headquarters relations, and role modeling through leadership, and thus we encourage nominations for any advisor whom you feel is worthy of this distinction. *Nominators should indicate whether the nominee advisor is an alumni or faculty/staff advisor, so that we can recognize and thank the advisors for their contributions from these distinct roles.

Tradition of Excellence
This award is presented to one or more individuals who consistently exceed expectations in one or more of the following focus areas for college students and active fraternity/sorority members. This award is intended to affirm the efforts an individual can make in one area that was deserving of significant focus, or in several areas that showcase their ability to impact a community in several ways. Nominators should identify the appropriate focus areas for which they believe the nominee should be recognized (listing is appropriate), and provide examples for each area of, to ensure recognition is given for all selected areas: Campus Involvement, Service and/or Philanthropy, Inclusive Leadership, Intellectual Growth, Change Catalyst, Mentorship, Community Pride and Spirit

Living the Ritual
This award recognizes individuals who best exemplify community and organizational founding values in their daily lives, and inspire others to do the same. These individuals serve as role models through their thoughts, words, and actions, and they take great pride in treating others with respect, celebrating difference, and fostering unity.

Community Awards
Fraternity and sorority chapters as well as governing councils may be considered for Community Awards. Where partnerships exists between organizations, multiple organizations can be listed as joint-nominees.

Outstanding Philanthropic Effort
This award is given to an organization that has gone above and beyond in supporting a cause, effort, or agency in a sustainable and meaningful way. This is typically represented by groups who recognize the nature of philanthropy as efforts to raise both awareness and support (e.g. financial, goods, time, and energy), while collaborating with others for a shared purpose. Efforts that are distinguished in this category can be either ongoing or one-time programs.

Commitment to Service
This award recognizes meaningful service efforts and action where participants gain exposure, develop an understanding, and respond to the needs of the community voice. This typically includes building and developing positive relationships, developing active citizens, and incorporating reflection. These criteria, when established and achieved, are indicative of dedicated efforts to create and inspire sustainable change. Efforts that are distinguished in this category can be either ongoing or one-time programs.

Program of Distinction
This award is given to an organization that is proud of a particularly successful event, program, or effort they executed in the past academic year. Consideration will be given to those efforts that incorporated collaboration, innovation, and/or education components as well as addressed a problem and/or met a need.

Most Improved
This award is given in recognition of the efforts an organization has taken to address a substantial challenge or issues they were/are facing. Change can be hard and waiting for the effects can feel slow, so this award was established with that in mind; this award is meant to affirm the actions an organization has taken and remind them that all the hard work is worth it. Conduct Update: Alpha Chi Omega

On February 10, 2016, the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority chapter was involved in an incident in which the organization's behavior violated the Lehigh University Code of Conduct. The chapter took responsibility for the following charges:

Respect for Community I1 (Posted Rules and Regulations) Violating any Lehigh University policies, rules, or regulations, including but not limited to, residential living policies (General Provisions for Occupancy) and policies related to the use of the university computer network.

Respect for Community L1 (Failure to Report / Being in the Presence of a violation) Failure to report and/or knowingly being in the presence of violations of the Lehigh University Code of Conduct or other University Policies.

INCIDENT SUMMARY: LUPD found a student to be highly intoxicated and being helped into M&M by two other students. The intoxicated student was a new member of Alpha Chi Omega.

As a result of this behavior the following sanction(s) are imposed:
This letter should serve as a warning to Alpha Chi Omega Sorority that any future violations of the University Code of Conduct may result in more severe sanctions.

The chapter is required to complete all of the items listed in their action plan and report back on a regular basis to OFSA.

The chapter is required to present their investigative model and process to Panhellenic Council during the Spring 2016 semester.

Lehigh University is proud of it's nationally-recognized fraternity and sorority community, and it is our hope that in the future Alpha Chi Omega focuses its energy on promoting the positive aspects of sorority membership.

Conduct Update: Kappa Sigma

The University Committee on Discipline met on March 10, 2016 to adjudicate Cases 2015202706.
2015204502, and 2015216201.

Kappa Sigma Fraternity was charged with the same charges in relation to three incidents that occurred on three separate dates--November 20, 2015, November 21, 2015, and December 2, 2015:

Respect for the Law 1
Lehigh University expects that its student members will act in accordance with all applicable federal,
state, or local laws.

Respect for Community (General)
As members of the Lehigh University Community, students are expected to serve as ethical
representatives. They are expected to know and follow the Code of Conduct, and show respect for the
faculty, staff, community members and administrative processes that are in place to maintain and support our community standards. Students are expected to hold themselves and others accountable and report violations of the Code of Conduct or other violations to the University.

Incident Summary: Multiple members of Kappa Sigma were cited for disorderly house off campus on the dates listed above.

The chapter pleaded responsible to the charges for incident 1 and 2 and not responsible for incident 3.
After reviewing the information related to incident, the Committee found Kappa Sigma responsible for both charges for all three incidents.  As a result of this behavior the following sanctions were imposed:

Kappa Sigma Fraternity is placed on Disciplinary Probation effective May 31, 2017 through December 31, 2017. Disciplinary probation is the conditional continuation of a group or organization for a specified period of time not to exceed four semesters. This status implies that any further violation of this Code of Conduct may result in dissolution, termination, or other authorized sanctions. Other sanctions may be imposed, including limitations on social activities, and additional requirements may be imposed as conditions for reinstatement of recognition in good standing.

The following educational sanction is being imposed. The chapter is required to meet with a conduct officer to develop and institute a plan for how to navigate major events, including Lehigh-Lafayette. Also, to disseminate the plan to current members and to institute procedures for more impromptu
gatherings. It is to be completed by April 8, 2016.

The following educational sanction is being imposed. The chapter is required to meet with an alumnus to better communicate with alumni about expectations and responsibilities for their personal conduct when they visit Lehigh. It is to be completed by April 8, 2016.

Rationale for Findings: The representatives of Lehigh's Kappa Sigma chapter plead responsible for the both of the November incidents. After hearing the details of the gathering on December 2nd: having about twenty-five members in a house, playing music without sound check, and drinking on a weeknight, We conclude that Kappa Sigma is also responsible for this disturbance to the community.

Rationale for Sanctions:
The primary sanction of disciplinary probation is extended through December 2017, since the Kappa
Sigma members were not notified of the previous sanctioning before these events happened. Extending the probation through the Fall of 2017 ensures that the Kappa Sigma chapter will be on probation through the next two Lehigh-Lafayette games. We hope that Kappa Sigma takes the December 2nd event as a learning opportunity to be more aware of their impact on the community.

Revised Metrics
Accreditation panelists will evaluate chapters across four metrics for the 2015-2016 academic year.  Facilities Management has been eliminated as a stand alone metric; however, effectively managing a facility, where one exists, and demonstrating the ability to oversee operations, maintenance, and safety within the facility remains important.  For that reason, components of this area have now shifted to other metrics (e.g. Organizational Development).  The revised metrics can be found on our website at http://studentaffairs.lehigh.edu/content/accreditation.
