Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. --- Status Update

We're reaching out to provide you with an update regarding the status of the Upsilon Nu Chapter of  Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Lehigh University.

Our office received communication from the national organization indicating that the chapter's provisional charter has been revoked and that the chapter will not transition to full charter status. The chapter is no longer recognized by the national organization and all privileges associated with such recognition are no longer available to the organization and its members. As a result, the chapter is closed.

While the chapter had a short-lived tenure, the impact has been 10-fold across our campus community and within the local community.  The eight men that joined the organization and subsequently graduated are also the highest caliber of students one could hope to work alongside, and it has truly been a pleasure.

This is certainly a sad moment for the fraternity, its members, and all that shared in Alpha Phi Alpha's history on our campus.  Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs at infrasor@lehigh.edu.

OFSA Staff Announcement: Part Two

We are beyond excited to share that Malcolm McDaniel has been selected to serve as an Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs!!

Malcolm McDaniel will join us from Hofstra University where he recently completed his Masters of Science in Education degree in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies in May 2016.  Prior to this, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from Long Island University, Post Campus in May 2014.  He served as the Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life at both Hofstra University and New York Institute of Technology and brings a wealth of knowledge to our team.

Those that interviewed Malcolm McDaniel provided overwhelmingly positive feedback when evaluating his candidacy.  They said the following:

He is focused on MGC and strengthening our chapters and council on campus. Being that he is a member of a multicultural fraternity, he knows the importance and value of the MGC. He has the potential to be an amazing change agent and will do all he can to support chapters and members.

He had thoughtful answers to the questions and seems to have a nice diversity of experience to draw.  He also just felt easy to chat with and calming.

He has quite a bit of experience working with the Multicultural Greek Council and helping to build relationships and partnerships with others. He also shared how he challenges students to think differently and understand the "why" behind what they do.

Malcolm McDaniel will join us on July 1, 2016.  Feel free to reach out and send a welcome message by emailing him at malcolm.t.mcdaniel@gmail.com.

OFSA Staff Announcement: Part One

We are beyond excited to share that J. Corey Gant has been selected to serve as an Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs!

J. Corey Gant will join us from Indiana University where he recently completed his Masters of Science in Education degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs in May 2016.  Prior to this, he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public & Urban Affairs from Virginia Polytechnic and State University in May 2014.  In his graduate assistant role at Indiana University, he served as the Fraternity & Sorority Education Graduate Advisor and brings a wealth of knowledge to our team.

Those that interviewed J. Corey Gant provided overwhelmingly positive feedback when evaluating his candidacy.  They said the following:

He emphasized a value around community, collaboration, and building relationships. He described himself as curious and a connector. These qualities would be helpful in building relationships in the Lehigh community as well as bringing fresh ideas to the office.

He has a genuine love of the Greek system and would be great at advising any council. I enjoyed his moments of authenticity, and think he would mesh well with Lehigh students.

He is highly knowledgeable and experienced with Greek life and brings to the table the same values shared by the OFSA at Lehigh.

J. Corey Gant will join us on July 1, 2016.  Feel free to reach out and send a welcome message by emailing him at jacogant@indiana.edu.

Many, many thanks to all that participated in the search process to help us identify our newest team member.
