To reiterate the letter that the fraternity and sorority community leaders received from Dean Basso, “please
read the entire Medical Amnesty Policy as
well as information about what to do in an emergency.
The Medical Amnesty Policy includes the fact that student organizations (in
this instance, Greek chapters) are required to seek immediate medical
assistance for members or guests. Ignore this policy at your own
peril. If you fail to call for immediate professional medical help
for someone, your chapter will face dissolution or termination and you, as an
individual, will face possible suspension for a serious offense involving substances
and endangering others. Seeking immediate medical assistance does not
include dropping intoxicated students off somewhere in the hopes that others
will call for help, nor does it include taking care of intoxicated students by
yourselves. The only acceptable and appropriate action is, without
delay, to call the police who will dispatch appropriate medical
resources. There is no legitimate reason not to do the right thing,
without hesitation. Call the Lehigh University or Bethlehem Police
immediately when someone is at risk.”
