It is our pleasure to officially notify you that Lehigh University's fraternity community is open for expansion. Per the 2010-11 System-Wide Assessment Committee Recommendations, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs is notifying you via memo of the call for expansion applications. We will also be sharing the below memo with the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) and the Inter/national Headquarters and alumni contacts for all formerly recognized chapters at Lehigh. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Jessi McPherrin or Tim Wilkinson.

Dear NIC Member Fraternities,

On behalf of the Interfraternity Council (IFC) we would like to announce that Lehigh University, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, will be moving forward with the expansion of our fraternity community. The purpose of this expansion effort is to continue the goal of providing a myriad of options within the community to meet the ever changing needs of our undergraduate student population.

Lehigh University was founded in 1865 and enrolls nearly 5,000 undergraduate students in four colleges.  Currently, there are 1,019 fraternity members within 18 recognized NIC fraternities on campus. The average IFC chapter size is 56 members. The all Fraternity men’s cumulative GPA is 3.0.

The University will be giving priority to those organizations that have had active chapters on campus in the past.  The relationship with those groups is a valued part of the future of the fraternity community at Lehigh.  However, this will not automatically “disqualify” any organization which submits materials.  Additionally, any fraternity expansion at Lehigh will not include a residential facility, and there will be no plans or timeline in place to convert any newly recognized non-residential chapters to residential chapters.

To view the Expansion Policy, packet requirements, and timeline, go directly to the Lehigh University Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs’ website at:  www.lehigh.edu/ofsa and click on “Policies & Forms”. Please make note that our Accreditation process has been edited and developed since the last IFC expansion at Lehigh University. The Accreditation metrics can be found under the “Reports and Statistics” page of the website.

All interested organizations should send materials to the address below by August 17, 2012. Submissions will be reviewed and invitations to campus will go out in September. Questions about this process may be directed to Jessi McPherrin, Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, at jlm811@lehigh.edu or 610.758.4157.

Fraternally,

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs at Lehigh University
